Wood Flooring - Resources Guide

No company that provides flooring would be complete without offering wood floors. CLAD Tile and stone offers a unique selection of pre-finished hardwood floors. Oak, cherry, maple and birch are some of the US woods that we provide.

From Australia, we offer unique Jarrah Outback, Spotted Gum, and Cypress, Brazil provides a beautiful Brazialian cherry, we also have Bamboo from China in natural and stained colors, to appeal to a more modern environment. Among our more recent arrivals include distressed and hand shaved woods that provide a truly South Florida look for home. Moisture is always an important consideration when thinking about wood floors here in South Florida.

Wood floors are offered as either solid wood or engineered (solid wood surface with a plywood underlayment). Usually, engineered wood floors are preferable for ground level floors as they are less prone to warping because of the plywood underneath. Even a concrete sub floor on the ground level can absorb some moisture through the concrete and cause solid wood to warp, unless special precautions are taken (like insuring that moisture barriers are installed before the wood floor is installed).

Even in upper condominium floors where no ground water is present, wood floors have been known to warp here in South Florida if one of the following occur: either upper patio doors are left open for extended periods of time, allowing moisture-rich air from the ocean to enter, or: the air conditioning system is left off for months at a time (as in the case of owners who are here only during the winter). If you have wood floors in your home and you are here only a few months a year, it is always a good idea to keep you're a/c system on automatic, even at a higher temperature, to keep the moisture level down.

The price difference for solid wood versus engineered wood floors are similar, so don't expect to pay a lot less for engineered versus solid wood. You can only refinish your engineered wood floors 1-2 times, versus solid floors, so keep this in mind as well.
